Last month I took part in the Jost Running Soaring 5k race, which was a virtual race.
Jost Running hosts virtual races each month, you can choose from 5k, 10k, half marathon or full marathon. Each month they also pick a charity to donate to. The October race is called Oktoberfest and they are donating to the Midwest Food Bank. The October medal is also a bottle opener As well as getting a medal you also get a personalized bib too.
As it is a virtual race you get to pick where you do the race and when, you can run, walk, skip, swim or whatever you choose to complete the distance, that is the beauty of virtual races. They also have a leaderboard on their site so you can enter the time and compare your stats with others.
The September race was called Soaring and it benefited NYRR’S Team for Kids. I went back home to England for a visit last month, so took my medal with me to earn, I also signed up for my sister for the 5k, and I knew my nieces would want to be part of it, as they love earning medals so I purchased some of last years medals for them, they sell any excess medals for $10 via their shop.
We did our 5k in a slightly different way, we were all staying at Center Parcs in Sherwood Forest and decided to take the geo caching challenge, which basically involved finding 10 clues using the GPS unit. It was lots of fun and worked out at just over 5k, it also took us over 2 hours!! but there was lots of stopping and we had small children with us too.
The kids loved their medals as do I, Jost Running make such awesome medals each month. I am super excited for their Let It Snow race in December. They are also in the process of testing a new phone app that tracks your distance and let’s you upload your data to the website as soon as you finish the race. I am looking forward to sharing that with you in a few months once it is fully up and running.
Here is our finishing photo, myself, my sister, and my oldest and youngest nieces.
Now the weather is getting cooler, I plan to start catching up on my big pile of virtual medals I signed up for over the last year – as you can see I have quite a few to work through.
Have a great day
